Loch Lomond Quilt Show - more favourites

Liz Ferguson - Still Life with Souvenirs

Here are some of my favourites from the competition quilts at the 2012 Loch Lomond Show.

Senga Bain - The Mermaid's Lament (Singing the Blues)

I'll be writing a review of the show for Popular Patchwork which will hopefully appear sometime over the summer.

Rosalie Furlong - White Horses

Mark Shields, Lewis Currie and Ryan Conlan - Mission Impossible - Agents

Glyn Molyneux - Good Luck Jim (this tape will destruct in 5 seconds)

Other non quilt highlights included as always the amazing home baking at West Kirk, where my children were treated to extra cakes, just because they remember them visiting as babies upwards.  Thank you ladies.  And a special thank you to Marjory McKinven and her sister Marion who were demonstrating themofax screen printing on the Saturday and let my second son have a go.   He was really proud of his efforts and it was something that his siblings haven't done, which made it even better!

Hi Gillian, is the show review issue out yet? Must get a copy for Glyn.

The review hasn't been published yet, but Glynn's quilt was definitely included in a separate article on the men's competition. I'll let you know when it comes out. I really liked his quilt. Did you influence much?

Not much influence at all from me :-) - though I seem to remember advising him not to be too literal in interpreting the theme - so much for that! He quizzed me a lot about the best way to do the design though, and I suggested products he could use i.e. 505 spray for 'glue' and Steam-a-Seam. He knew these things existed, but not the names! I also had to teach him how to 'drive' the Bernina 153QE, because he didn't know which buttons did what (his own machine is a 1960s junkheap). He planned it way more than I would, with a full size CAD drawing annotated with all the strip lengths and sizes.
